The process of knowing what you want

Every man is what he is, because of the dominating thoughts he has in his mind ~ Napoleon Hill

If we pay attention to our thoughts, feelings, and experiences, it is possible to tell the nature of thoughts that dominate our minds.

Lost in a negative pool of thought?

My mind used to be a mess. I had too many negative thoughts, and thinking about it now, I understand why my experience of life was not the best. I was too much in victim mode, I felt sorry for myself for not having financial success despite working so hard to achieve it. I was broke, bitter and I was sure that someone or something else was responsible for my misery.

It is impossible to know what you want if your mind is filled with negative thought

In this state, I seemed to be chasing things I did not want. Check out my post on the struggles of a multipotentialite, you'll see what I mean. In pursuit of money, success, and general comfort and convenience, I got lost chasing careers that were not for me. The perfect example is my journey with trading cryptocurrencies. I was so passionate about it. I invested almost 3 years in learning, and I didn't even mind that I wasn't making money while learning. I knew one day my hard work would pay off, but instead, one day I realized its not for me.

Get your body, mind, and energy organized in one direction

One can only understand this statement if it is indeed an experiential truth. I heard Sadhguru saying this in many of his videos, but only understood it after being consistent with yoga practice. As chaotic as my mind was, it slowly began to change itself. I began to feel much better. My body was and still is at ease, I feel happier, compassionate, and loving. I never knew that these feelings could last for a while until my spiritual journey began. In this state of awareness, it is easy to tell when negative emotion arises, and when it does, it seems to evolve into something else. You can read about how I observed my negative emotions evolving instead of coming back in cycles here

You are not your thoughts or emotions

Most of us do not know what we're doing or where we're headed. We probably do not even know what we want. In my experience, I thought I knew what I wanted, but many times I tried things then after hitting a roadblock, got bored, and eventually gave up. I realized that my intentions for going for what I thought I wanted were very limited and selfish. This happens if we get lost in our thoughts and emotions. If we put too much weight on our psychological accumulations, we tend to drift with them, thinking we know what to do, where to go, or what we want. This is perpetuating an illusion, and with time, we realize that it is not who we are.

Your inner spirit knows everything

The only way to know is to stay connected with the inner spirit, whose perspective is that of the source of creation. The whole essence of yoga is to move from untruth to truth, from unknowing to knowing, from misery to ease. It's a whole process. When one is rooted in reality in this way, love, joy, ease, and compassion are natural consequences. Only when we are in this vibration can we discover what it is we truly desire. When the body, mind, and energy are focused in one direction, the mind is evidently filled with not just positive, but impactful thoughts, because the inner spirit only knows inclusiveness.  When we make this happen, we can only move in the direction of what we want, even though it is not always clear. Ours is to just follow our intuition and allow ourselves to be guided by the inner spirit through the path of least resistance.
